Comparing compatible sensors

All three work with the Prime Factors app. We recommend the Libre 2 or 2 Plus — they cost significantly less than the Libre 3 while delivering the same core experience. Prices below reflect your selected country.

Using the smartphone app, all three sensors stream readings automatically every minute — no manual scanning needed after the initial setup tap.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Prime Factors programme work with the standalone reader?

No. The Prime Factors programme requires using the FreeStyle LibreLink smartphone app to connect your sensor. The standalone Libre reader is not supported. You'll need a compatible iPhone (8 or newer, iOS 15.5+) or an NFC-capable Android phone (Android 8+). You do not need to purchase the reader — when buying, look for sensor-only packs rather than starter kits that bundle the reader.

Which phone do I need?

You need either an iPhone 8 or newer running iOS 15.5+, or an Android phone with NFC capability running Android 8+. NFC is required to activate the sensor on first use. You can verify compatibility on Abbott's compatibility page before purchasing.

What's the difference between Libre 2, 2 Plus, and 3?

All three are fully compatible with Prime Factors. When using the smartphone app, all three stream readings automatically every minute — no scanning required. The Libre 2 Plus adds one extra day of wear (15 vs 14 days) over the original Libre 2, with a more stable Bluetooth connection, at the same price. The Libre 3 / 3 Plus has a longer Bluetooth range, a smaller sensor, and slightly better accuracy, but typically costs 30–40% more. For most users, the Libre 2 Plus is the best value.

Do I need to scan the sensor manually?

Only once — when you first apply a new sensor, you'll need to hold your phone close to activate it via NFC. After that, the app receives readings automatically every minute via Bluetooth. No further scanning is needed during normal use.

I bought a sensor from another country. Will it work?

Sensors are region-locked to work only with the FreeStyle LibreLink app downloaded from your country's App Store or Google Play. A sensor bought in Germany won't pair with the Singapore or US version of the app. Always buy sensors that match your country of residence.

How often do I need to replace the sensor?

The Libre 2 and Libre 3 last 14 days each. The Libre 2 Plus and Libre 3 Plus last 15 days. The sensor shuts off automatically at the end of its wear period — you'll apply a new one at that point. On a 15-day cycle, that's roughly two sensors per month.

Can I shower, swim, or exercise while wearing the sensor?

Yes. All FreeStyle Libre sensors are water-resistant and can be worn during showering, bathing, swimming, and exercise. They can withstand submersion in up to 1 metre (3 ft) of water for up to 30 minutes.

Prices shown are primarily for the Libre 2 / 2 Plus. Libre 3 prices are typically 30–40% higher. Ratings sourced from Trustpilot. Prime Factors is not affiliated with Abbott or any pharmacy listed above.
